Ready to dive into the Med?

Stunning ‘calas’ close to Palma

The Mediterranean wonders known as ‘calas’ are basically small, private and often wild and hidden spots of Majorcan beauty. The island definitely has a lot to offer and its stunning coastline is one of the absolute jewels of the crown. Let’s explore our favorite coves close to Palma.

Cala Mayor – a short bus ride away

Only a 20 minute bus ride (you can ride with bus number 4 or number 46) away from Palma you will find Cala Mayor, a white-sanded cove with turquoise, shallow waters perfect for an afternoon dip after exploring the city. You can rent sun loungers and parasols and just let time pass by while you soak up the beauty surrounding you. There are a few beach bars and restaurants right at the beach, so have fun!

Cala Fornells – about one hour away, but worth it!

Cala Fornells is located in Mallorca’s Southwest, closer to Andratx and its port. One of the things we love about it is that you will experience the two sides of a typical Majorcan cove: it’s both sandy and rocky! If you’ve got a snorkeling set, make sure to carry it with you! To get there you have to make a combination from The Boc Hostels, riding bus number 7 or 14 first and then bus number 102.

Punta Negra – rocky cove surrounded by trees

Also in Mallroca’s Southwest, but close to Palma than Cala Fornells you will find the stony peninsula of Punta Negra, which is home to two small coves. The fact that there are no amenities nor services, will make you feel the authentic vibe of the Med when visiting. This cove is also to be reached on board of the bus number 102 from the city centre.

Illetas and Cala Comtessa – Mediterranean dream come true

Located only a few kilometres away from Palma and to be reached on board of bus number 4 from our hostels, Cala Comtessa and Illetas are the ultimate Mediterranean dream come true. Both beaches are surrounded by rocks on one side and pine trees on the other. There are sunloungers available at Illetas and there’s also a beach club offering premium sunbeds and a fancy spot for a summer lunch if you want to book a table!
