Get to know the authentic Mallorca
This is it! You’re on holidays and staying at one of our Boc Hostels in Palma’s city centre. As you’ve probably already been able to experience, this stands for never-ending fun! Palma is a lively city filled with tons of fun things to do, places to visit and people to get to know to. But today we’re giving you a recommendation for a day trip to get to know one of Mallorca’s most authentic villages.
In case you didn’t know, there’s a train (and metro) station in Palma’s city centre, more specifically at Plaza España. And this is exactly the place you need to be heading to if you’re ready to spend the day getting to know the traditional village of Sóller and its port. There’s a vintage train that will take you to Sóller, passing through the famous orange valley and the experience to ride the train is something very special. Just the train ride is worth a visit! After riding for about one hour, you’ll get to your first destination.
Located in the north-western area of Mallorca, Sóller lies in the large fertile bowl-shaped valley known as ‘valley of oranges’. The main square, Plaza de la Constitución, will be your starting point to explore this beautiful, old and beautifully preserved village, filled with cafés and bars offering local food. Some of the landmarks to see while visiting are: Sant Bartomeu church, Art Noveau building of Can Prunera and the Botanical Garden (Jardí Botànic). If you’re visiting on a Saturday, you’ll be able to dive into authentic Majorcan living, because the weekly market will be taking place at the main square!
In Sóller (and included with your train ticket) you can hop on the tram that connects Sóller and its port. This small, coastal stunner is a picture-perfect port, perfect to take long strolls while the sun starts to set or to sit on one of the restaurant’s terraces to order your favourite cocktails in a laid-back, relaxed atmosphere. It still is active as a fishing harbour, meaning you can have delicious fish and seafood at the port.
If you like the idea of spending the day discovering Sóller and Port de Sóller, our team at the front desk will be happy to assist you to find out more about the train or other possibilities to get there!
