Ready to brunch the day away?
Yes, you guessed it! It’s brunch time! And we absolutely love brunchin’ our mornings away before exploring the city, going to the beach or getting to know something different in the beautiful city of Palma de Mallorca. And as absolute brunch fans we needed to give you this advice on where to go to have a delicious brunch in Palma.
There are plenty of cafés where you can have breakfast and brunch in Palma. As you already know, this is a cosmopolitan city filled with gastronomic highlights for all tastes and budgets. So, today we wanted to give you our selection of brunch spots which are great value for money.
Plaza Mayor, one of the most emblematic places in Palma, is home to many restaurants and cafés. But don’t let these fool you! There are many ‘tourist traps’ on this popular square. Good news is that you will be able to find ‘BrunchIt’ on the side of the square. Perfect for a delicious, opulent brunch after a night out in Palma, this café is a place for coffee lovers looking to try all kinds of delicious food.
With so many options to have breakfast or brunch, it’s sometimes easy to get carried away by the most ‘popular’ spots. Ruitort has been a long-time local favourite. It started as a little café led by Joanaina and Albert and has now moved to a larger location with more space for visitors close to the popular street of ‘Las Ramblas’ in Palma’s city centre. Try some of their ‘llonguets’ instead of your regular avo toast, you won’t regret it!
Specialty coffee, vegan treats, smoothie bowls and first-class toasts are a must at Mama Carmen’s, a fun, laid-back café in the neighbourhood of Santa Catalina. Open every day from 9h to 14h, it is one of our favourite places to visit for brunch. Its Pumpkin Spiced Latte is most definitely one of a kind!
El Perrito has two locations, both in the trendy neighbourhood of Santa Catalina and close to one another. This is one of those cafés you will be happy to go back to, as there are plenty of options on the menu and you won’t be able to try everything you want just with one visit. Breakfast, brunch and lunch with extra homemade love. Gotta try it!
Get to know the authentic Mallorca
This is it! You’re on holidays and staying at one of our Boc Hostels in Palma’s city centre. As you’ve probably already been able to experience, this stands for never-ending fun! Palma is a lively city filled with tons of fun things to do, places to visit and people to get to know to. But today we’re giving you a recommendation for a day trip to get to know one of Mallorca’s most authentic villages.
In case you didn’t know, there’s a train (and metro) station in Palma’s city centre, more specifically at Plaza España. And this is exactly the place you need to be heading to if you’re ready to spend the day getting to know the traditional village of Sóller and its port. There’s a vintage train that will take you to Sóller, passing through the famous orange valley and the experience to ride the train is something very special. Just the train ride is worth a visit! After riding for about one hour, you’ll get to your first destination.
Located in the north-western area of Mallorca, Sóller lies in the large fertile bowl-shaped valley known as ‘valley of oranges’. The main square, Plaza de la Constitución, will be your starting point to explore this beautiful, old and beautifully preserved village, filled with cafés and bars offering local food. Some of the landmarks to see while visiting are: Sant Bartomeu church, Art Noveau building of Can Prunera and the Botanical Garden (Jardí Botànic). If you’re visiting on a Saturday, you’ll be able to dive into authentic Majorcan living, because the weekly market will be taking place at the main square!
In Sóller (and included with your train ticket) you can hop on the tram that connects Sóller and its port. This small, coastal stunner is a picture-perfect port, perfect to take long strolls while the sun starts to set or to sit on one of the restaurant’s terraces to order your favourite cocktails in a laid-back, relaxed atmosphere. It still is active as a fishing harbour, meaning you can have delicious fish and seafood at the port.
If you like the idea of spending the day discovering Sóller and Port de Sóller, our team at the front desk will be happy to assist you to find out more about the train or other possibilities to get there!
Discover Es Trenc, Playa de Muro and Formentor
You’re in Mallorca. And if you’re staying at The Boc Hostels, you’re probably enjoying the best of Palma de Mallorca and its never-ending list of things to do! On our blog you can find a wide selection of topics to make the most out of your stay at one of our hostels: we talk about restaurants, bars, sightseeing, day trips and more!
But today we want to tell you all about our three favourite beaches on the island. If you’re seeking for Mediterranean beauty at its most authentic shape and colour, this is the blog post you should be reading!
We could not start this post about the most stunning beaches on Mallorca with any other beach that this one: Es Trenc. Located in Mallorca’s Southeast and known as Mallorca’s response to the Caribbean, this white-sanded beach with turquoise waters is what dreams are made of! If you’re looking for heaven on earth, this is it! You just found it! Its shallow, calm water is medicine to the soul and thanks to its setting, surrounded by dunes, it gives you a glimpse of natural living on the island. There are a few restaurants and bars at the beach, in addition to basic toilets, but that’s about it.
Heading all the way North, opposite from Es Trenc, you will find a 6-kilometre-long Mediterranean gem called Playa de Muro. Holding a blue flag, this white sandy beach is one of the longest beaches on the Balearic Islands divided into different sectors, all of them boasting fine golden sand and blue water. Perfect for families with young children, Playa de Muro offers services like toilets, showers, disabled access and lifeguard, in addition to playgrounds and amusement for children.
Last, but not least, we’d like to recommend you the beach of Formentor. Located on the northern Cap de Formentor, you will find Playa de Formentor about 10 kilometres from Port de Pollensa. One of the things we love about it is its wildness, due to its dramatic backdrop. On the beach there’s a pine forest offering shade on the narrow, but long beach for anyone enjoying a beach day.
We’d love to hear all about your beach day at any of these idyllic beaches in Mallorca. If you need any help renting a car or finding out how to get there, please don’t hesitate to come by the front desk!

‘La mujer de verde’ is a nice restaurant located in the trendy neighbourhood of Santa Catalina serving local, seasonal, vegetarian and vegan cuisine. They offer a weekly lunch menu where you can choose from three starters, three main dishes and two desserts available from Tuesday to Saturday from 13h to 16h for 15€.
Also, in Santa Catalina you will find ‘Santina’, across the street from the popular Santa Catalina market. As they say, they like to make food for the city that likes to eat. And oh yes, we’re definitely here for it! At Santina vegan and vegetarian dishes are a must on the menu and you can have either breakfast, brunch or lunch there.
Another fun restaurant in Santa Catalina known for its vegetarian and vegan dishes is Simple Smart Food. With that name we can probably not add much to what’s to come, right? They make delicious breakfast (try some of their smoothies, you won’t regret it!)
Last, but not least, there’s a vegan restaurant that’s really popular among locals called Ca n’Ela. You’ll find this cosy little restaurant in the neighbourhood of La Lonja, in Palma’s Old Town. Friendly service and an all-vegan fun menu are in for the win!
Talking about the bike lanes of Mallorca and the fashion of electric bikes.
Mallorca has always been an island with a great cycling tradition. Beyond the traditional sun and beach tourism, many amateur cyclists and professional teams travel to the island to train. The volume is such, there are many places to rent an electric bicycle and equipment for cyclists. Perhaps for the most purists of cycling, electric bikes are an aberration, but the truth is that they are an increasingly popular option among tourists and locals to tour the island. Palma is a city with many tourist attractions, architecture, history, museums, gastronomy, sports ... etc., and many times, either due to time or exhaustion, we cannot enjoy everything we would like. An electric bike gives you the necessary autonomy to travel the city in a different, fun , healthy and ecological way, and it is a perfect option and accessible to all kinds of people. One of the most popular routes is to spend a morning visiting the city center, visiting the Cathedral and the wall, the Almudaina palace, Plaza Mayor, and having some tapas next to the Arab baths. Or walk along the promenade to the beach and end the trip with a refreshing swim before returning. Palma has more than 90 km of bike lanes, a large majority of which cross the bay of Palma through which you can circulate on your electric bike with a gentle breeze and unbeatable views with little effort. It has more than 2,500 bicycle parking spaces and 200 traffic lights to safeguard your safety. < / Br> One of the most popular options for going by electric bike outside of Palma is a visit to the Bellver Castle. The steep climbs to the fortress are faced in a different way when the bike's engine helps you climb them, and it is a great option to also get to know the Santa Catalina neighborhood, an old fishing village with a traditional market where you can stop to rest. and, incidentally, take the opportunity to taste the local wines and tapas. The viewpoint at the top has one of the best panoramic views of the city of Palma and the Bay. There are currently a multitude of bike rental agencies in Palma, and the vast majority also rent electric bikes. The wide variety of bikes available will allow you to expand your possibilities : you will not only find city bikes for touring the city but also folding or mountain bikes and long-distance bikes, more robust and prepared for difficult trails. br > Fortunately, Mallorca is perfectly prepared for cycling tourism, and in many areas you will find completely safe bike lanes or cycling paths. Enjoy a walk through the countryside visiting one of them, enjoying the Mallorcan sun and the smells of the countryside, surrounded by fruit trees and traditional fincas , and end the trip in a small hidden cove, the kind that are a treasure that is not much people know. Lovers of two wheels have never had it easier to enjoy their passion on one of the most beautiful islands in the Mediterranean. Here we offer you some of the most popular routes that you can enjoy with your electric bike: https://palmariders.com/discover/
